The first activity of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple 25th Anniversary program was the Rev. and Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament held at Shoreline Golf Course on August 17, followed by a barbecued steak dinner at the Sangha Hall dining room. The event netted over $700 toward the scholarship fund.
The handicap tournament winner was Sam Sugimoto with a net 57. Runner-up was Dave Kamachi, who shot low gross of 78 at this difficult course. There were 43 players in all, four being from Japan. ·

A delicious steak barbecue followed the event at the Sangha Hall dining room where prizes were presented. The eighty dinner attendees were winners because of the many donated merchandise and raffled prizes.
The Golf Tournament Committee thanks the following for their donations: Cusimano Mortuary (golf balls), Yamane Jewelry (trophy), Clark Taketa (gift certificate), Nishimoto Trading (beer), Japan Foods (rice and foods), Kinichi Okuno, Kei Hayame, Shozo Mayeda, Yas Shimoguchi (food), and all participants and supporters whose contributions made this event so successful.
The golf organization extends special thanks to the Harry Sakae YABA team, particularly Jim Kawaye and his pit crew and the golfers’ families who helped prepare the excellent dinner. Most of all, the committee expresses its deepest gratitude to every one for their generous donations for a worthy cause.

EDITOR NOTES:
- Matt Cusimano donated several dozen golf balls for the first Sasaki Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament. Sleeves of balls were given to each golfer in the tournament. He continued to donate golf balls for every tournament until this year when the tournament was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. He would have had donated if the tournament was played – it would have been the 35th Annual Rev. & Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Scholarship Golf Tournament.
- The recipients for the 35th Annual Rev. & Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Scholarship were Stacey Kawabata, Kylie Mukoyama and Wendy Sakuma.
