I am happy to announce that Rev. Devon Matsumoto has officially received the Kyoshi Certificate from Hongwanji in Kyoto. He completed the Kyoshi Kyoshu (training sessions), which took place at the Jodo Shinshu Center in Berkeley last November.
Through his extraordinary effort and deep passion, Rev. Matsumoto successfully passed all required tests, chanting, and ritual components. Following a thorough review of his results, the Hongwanji formally conferred the Kyoshi Certificate upon him in February of this year.
In the Jodo Shinshu tradition, the Kyoshi Certificate is the basic requirement for becoming a resident minister in Japan. However, within the BCA, an additional Kaikyoshi Certificate is required to serve as a resident minister.
Rev. Matsumoto is no longer a Tokudo minister – he is now officially recognized as a Kyoshi minister. He has come this far and continues to work toward his dream. He is almost there!
Let us support him in every way we can.
Congratulations! Rev. Devon Matsumoto!
In Gassho,
Rev. Yushi Mukojima
