MVBT President’s Message – Caregivers Support Group

A Community is defined by how it is sustained and upheld by its members.  We are very fortunate that Doug Sawamura formed the Caregivers Support Group in late 2023.  Craig Hamasaki has also been helpful in hosting some of the meetings and providing resources.  The mission of this group is to provide a forum for our Temple members to gather for the purposes of sharing and learning more about caregiving.

If you have not yet cared for a friend or relative in the past, you will likely do so in the future.  Someone will need either short-term or long-term assistance.  We are honored to be able to provide this service to friends and family, but it can take a toll and we must keep in mind that taking care of ourselves is important to continue with the care of others.  This group has formed to give caregivers past, present and future an opportunity to share experiences, learn something new and network with others in a similar situation.

Topics covered in the once monthly meetings include:

  • Caregiver resources / agencies / people
  • Living trusts / legal ramifications
  • Taxes / how California Proposition 19 has or will affect us all

If caregiving is occupying some of your time, I hope you will join this group and find the discussions helpful.  Meetings are once monthly on the third Monday of the month at 730 pm.  Information is also available via Putra’s Post.

We are fortunate to have members of our Community working to help us navigate this critical task of caregiving.

In deepest appreciation for all the efforts of our Sangha,

Julie Satake Ryu

2025 MVBT Board President
