ANNOUNCEMENT

FDSTL Conference

The Coast District Dharma School Teachers’ League is hosting this year’s Federation of Dharma School Teachers’ Leagues Conference, which will be held on Saturday, April 27, at Mountain View Buddhist Temple.  Teachers from BCA temples across the country and from the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaiʻi will be attending.

We are still seeking volunteers to help set up on Friday, April 26, from 7 pm to 9 pm, and for meal service volunteers on Saturday.

No Dharma School on April 28

While there will be no Dharma School classes on Sunday, April 28 due to the FDSTL Conference, everyone is encouraged to attend for a special Dharma Talk by this year’s conference keynote speaker, Dr. Paula Arai, the Eshinni and Kakushinni Professor of Women and Buddhist Studies from the Institute of Buddhist Studies.

The Hongwanji Place Bookstore will also be set up in the Sangha Hall foyer with an array of items for sale.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Hanamatsuri

Thank you to the Dharma School students, teachers, and families for making this year’s Hanamatsuri so special!  A huge thank you to Cheryl Shay for coordinating this year’s luncheon and special presentation of “A Special Place” and “Time for Dharma School” by the younger Dharma School classes.

The trivia game hosted by the High School Class was a lot of fun as well!

Finally, thank you to the BWA for donating the yummy cakes – they were a special treat!

Congratulations to Frances Sawamura!

The Sangha celebrated Frances Sawamura’s 60th year of teaching Dharma School on Sunday, April 14, during the Hanamatsuri luncheon.  What a wonderful milestone!  On behalf of the generations of young Buddhists whose lives she has touched, we thank Frances for her warm energy and many years of dedication to our Dharma School!

And, thank you to Carol Yonemura and Curt Fukuda who coordinated and produced the celebratory video.

Thank You to ABA

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to ABA whose members generously volunteered to bring salads for the FDSTL Conference!
