Dharma School News – May 2023

The Bay District is hosting the annual Federation of Dharma School Teachers’ League (FDSTL) conference online on Saturday, April 29.  The theme for this year’s conference is “Inside Out Buddhism.”  This year, Mountain View Buddhist Temple will have six attendees.

Thank you to the Dharma School students, teachers, and families for making this year’s Hanamatsuri so special!  The O-chigo Procession was a spectacular way to start our Hanamatsuri service, and the Dharma School’s presentation of “In Lumbini’s Garden” was a nice treat. The trivia game hosted by the high school class on aspects of Siddhartha Gautama’s life was a lot of fun.  A special thank you to Carol Yonemura, Joan Aoki, Sharon Tsukahara, Mika Mukojima, Traci Inouye, and Mari Ueda-Tao for all of your hard work on the O-chigo Procession.

The 5th and 6th Grade Dharma School class hosted a onenju and bake sale after the Hanamatsuri Service to support the Ayudando Latinos A Soñar (or ALAS) organization.  With everyone’s generosity, they were able to raise $1,435!  The Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) Social Welfare Committee is matching the funds, so almost $3,000 will be donated to ALAS to support the farmworkers in Half Moon Bay!  Thank you for your support!
