“Crooked Tree” Commemorative Plaque Installed

The “Crooked Tree” plaque was installed on a rock under the Cook Pine Tree on August 16, 2025.

The plaque commemorates its planting by Gomonshu Ohtani and Lady Ohtani of the Kyoto Nishi Hongwanji, who visited our Temple in 1964.

In the 60 years since its planting, the tree has taken firm hold in the ground and the branches have extended high and wide into the sky as if to encourage us to earnestly follow the Nembutsu Path.

It was a wish of the late Richard Endo to commemorate the tree so that current and future MVBT members know the importance of the tree to our Temple’s heritage.
