At Mountain View Buddhist Temple (MVBT), we are followers of Jodo Shinshu Buddhist teachings, also known as Pure Land Buddhism. MVBT is one of more than 60 Shin Buddhist communities that belong to the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA), headquartered in San Francisco. BCA is part of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha tradition of Buddhism, with its main temple, Nishi Hongwanji, located in Kyoto, Japan.
Our Sangha, or community, is made up of people of diverse backgrounds and ages. Some in our Sangha are descended from pioneer members, who established our community. Many individuals and families are relative newcomers to the Sangha. They walked in our doors, found a welcoming community, and decided to stay. Whenever and however people find us, all are welcome.
As a Jodo Shinshu community, we will not reject anyone based on age, gender, class, race, sexual identity, or any other basis. We welcome you to come and see for yourself. Learn more about us by exploring our website, attending a service, or coming out for one of our events.
