ALTA MESA CEMETERY CLEANUP

On April 19, the Miroku and Girl Scouts members and parents joined ABA members for ABA’s annual Alta Mesa Cemetery cleanup.  Forty participants helped trim, wash and place flowers on the headstones in the Asian Area of the cemetery.

Thank You’s

Big thanks to Mel Inouye, who coordinated the donation of the flowers from the San Francisco Flower Market as well as Haruye Hoshi and Toshiko Uyehara, who brought additional flowers.  Also, much appreciation to Joyce Okumura-Lee for organizing the flowers, to the “Weed Whackers” (Sterling Makishima, Peter Matsumoto and David Kariya – David did some whacking before April 19 prior to going to Japan), and to Paul Sakuma, who trimmed the large hedge around the memorial monument and to all who participated in this community service activity.

Three-Course Pizza Lunch

We all got together afterwards at the Temple and had a 3-course delicious pizza lunch arranged by Alice Ishida, Judy Nakano and Emi Mori.

CHICKEN TERIYAKI FUNDRAISER

For the Chicken Teriyaki Fundraiser on May 3 & 4, ABA helped with the 2nd shift of barbecuing and cleanup on Saturday and the packing of rice into containers for the bentos on Sunday morning.  Thanks to all the ABA members that volunteered and to Russ Nakano who recruited the sign ups for both shifts.
