We are living through challenging times. Whether it’s the COVID-19 global pandemic, the death of George Floyd or the reaction to peaceful demonstrations – people are struggling. Can we find guidance and solace in the Dharma of Jodo Shinshu?
Since I was a child in Dharma School, I have chanted, and memorized, the Golden Chain. But over the past few weeks, its message of togetherness, strength and guidance has resonated with me.
It has brought comfort to my heart and I hope everyone in our Sangha finds solace in its words.
The members of MVBT’s ABA hope our Sangha is safe and healthy. We look forward to the day when we can all gather in the hondo and recite the Golden Chain together.
With Kindness and Gratitude beyond words,
Jean Shimoguchi (she/her/hers)
I am a link in the Buddha’s Golden Chain of Love that stretches around the world. I must keep my link bright and strong.
I will try to be kind and gentle to every living thing and protect all who are weaker than myself.
I will try to think pure and beautiful thoughts, to say pure and beautiful words, and to do pure and beautiful deeds, knowing that my actions will result not only in my happiness or unhappiness, but also the happiness or unhappiness of others as well.
May every link in Buddha’s Golden Chain of Love be bright and strong, and may we all attain Perfect Peace.
