On August 27, 2022, the Mountain View Buddhist Temple celebrated its 35th Annual Sasaki Memorial Golf Tournament at the Sunnyvale Golf Course. The last tournament was held in August 2019 before the COVID pandemic started.

Thirty-nine golfers played on a nice pleasant day for golf. Everyone had fun playing golf and enjoyed meeting friends during the tournament.
Thank you to all of the golfers for signing up and playing. And, thank you to the golfers and friends of the Temple who made monetary donations to the Sasaki Memorial Scholarship Fund. All proceeds go into the scholarship fund.
WINNERS
This year there were three flights for golfers. Flight A and B was for those golfers with US Golf Association who have handicap indexes, and Flight C for those who do not. The low net winners for each flight and the Closet-to-the-Pin on Par 3s are listed below.
SASAKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Sasaki Memorial Golf Tournament was created to fund the Rev. & Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to college-bound, high school seniors who attended the Mountain View Buddhist Temple Dharma School and participated in other Buddhist activities.
This year’s scholarship recipient was Evan Itow. Since the first scholarship was presented in 1986, 63 deserving high school graduates have received scholarships.
DEDICATED TO RICHARD ENDO & MATT CUSIMANO
This year’s golf tournament was dedicated to Richard Endo and Matt Cusimano. Richard and Matt were dedicated to the success of the golf tournament for decades.
To commemorate them, each golfer received lunch in an insulated lunch bag and a poker chip ball marker, each with words of appreciation to Richard and Matt
REV. LaVERNE SASAKI ATTENDED
Rev. LaVerne Sasaki attended this year’s golf tournament. He greeted many of his friends that he had not seen in two years. To each golfer, he gave a copy of his book that he wrote in 2017 titled “Out of the Mud Grows the Wisteria.”
