200+ Volunteers Made 1700 lbs of Mochi
Another successful Mochitsuki was held on Sunday, December 8. The host Zones 4 & 8 are so very grateful for everyone’s support and guidance to facilitate such a productive event for our Temple community. 200+ volunteers of all ages – with some families having three generations in attendance – pounded and produced close to 1700 pounds of mochi starting at 6:00 am and finished cleaning up by 2:00 pm.
Mochi is a symbol of gratitude at the end of the year and hope for the new year. Zone 4 & 8 are grateful for the Temple members’ help and look for good fortunes for 2025.
NBC Bay Area New
The general public at home was treated to highlights of the day by Mike Inouye and his NBC Bay Area TV camera crew with video reports on Sunday and Monday mornings.
National CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley
In addition, our Mochitsuki tradition will be featured in a nationally broadcast segment on “CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley” airing on Sunday, December 29 starting at 7:00 am.
So, set your recorder or get up early and you are likely to see a few people you know!
Mochi – Sold Out
Due to an abundance of pre-orders this year the small amount of left over mochi (less than 50 lbs) has been sold out already. Sorry! Better place your order early next year!
