2022 Rev. & Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Scholarship

Evan Itow is the recipient of the 37th Annual Rev. and Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Scholarship.

With the closure of the Temple, the MVBT Sasaki Scholarship Committee presented Evan with his scholarship at the virtual Graduation Service that was held on Sunday, June 12.  The Temple congratulates Evan and wishes him continued success in their college life.

To date, the Sasaki Scholarship Committee has given 63 scholarships to deserving Dharma School students.

BACKGROUND

After the passing of both Rev. Sensho and Mrs. Kinuko Sasaki, a scholarship in their name was established at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple in 1985 with a donation from the families of their children.  Now, the Sasaki Memorial Scholarship is funded by the proceeds from the Rev. and Mrs. Sensho Sasaki Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament.

Each June, the Sasaki scholarship is awarded to a college-bound, high school student(s) in the Temple who apply for the scholarship and meet special requirements.  The recipient must enroll in a college, express a strong interest in the Buddhist religion, have an excellent attendance record in Dharma School, and have been participating in other Buddhist activities.  The scholarship committee also considers YBA participation, Buddhist education activities and an essay.  Sometimes the committee awards multiple scholarships, depending on the qualifications of the applicants.
